Rasul Mollaqolipour




Rasul Mollaqolipour (1955)

During the first days of the Islamic Revolution, he started a career as an amateurish photographer. But when the war broke out, he went to the fronts, and became a professional photographer. Then he began shooting war docus of the operations. With a 16mm camera, he made a short film, titled “The Little Shah”, and got the best picture award from The Vahdat Film Festival. He shot his first feature, “Neynava” (1963), in 16mm and became a professional filmmaker. In April 2006, he dead of a heart stroke. Rasul Mollaqolipour has directed 15 feature films, and was active in all production fields, too.


Director of war movies, he focused on social matters too. He belonged to the young muslim and revolutionary generation. He has created unforgettable moments of the holy defense and experienced some unexperienced aspects of Iranian war movies. His work will remain as a gem of the holy defense cinema, and righteous, will become an important referring material, for the future filmmakers. Nobody can deny, his unique ability in developing effective battle scenes, apocalyptic moments that all will be remembered through years. The experience of being present in the front, for years, helped him creating these moments. First, he was an elegist, then an epic war poet. Showing “Defeat” was the only way to get “Success”, for him and his movies.
