Rasul Sadrameli

Rasul Sadrameli was born in 1954. After working in journalism for years, he started his career in cinema by producing the 1980 “Rain of Blood”, directed by Amir Ghavidel. Since 1981, he has added 11 feature films to his filmmaking profile. He is one of the few filmmakers with outstanding accomplishments in making films for young adults. His works have been screened in many international film festivals, and received a number of awards from Fajr (Iran), Berlin (Germany), Olympia (Greece), Golden Elephant (India) and Ale Kino (Poland) film festivals, as well as the annual Iran Cinema Celebration.

Known for his unique scrutinizing approach to social issues, Sadrameli has made three successful movies about teenage girls: “The girl in sneakers”, “I am Taraneh, I am 15 years old” and “Aida, I saw your father last night”. He believes that cinema should reflect the people’s pain, suffering and joy; it should be born out of the heart and mind of those who love to make movies, regard cinema as a sacred scene and understand the influence it can have on the society. Anyone with such a mindset should put his faith in God and just make movies, even though there is no writing, document or law for it. The artist has a standing responsibility to always object; even if he lives in an ideal society, he should always look for a better one.
