| Iranian Alliance of Motion Picture Guilds pays tribute to Naser Taghvai |
According to the House of Cinema’s Public Relations, the honorary statuette of the 13th Iran Cinema Celebration will be awarded to Naser Taghvai, the pioneering writer/director of the Iranian cinema, for a lifetime of artistic achievements.
Born in Abadan in 1951, Naser Taghvai is one of the most influential masters of filmmaking who shaped a brand new generation of moviemakers with a fresh outlook in the cinema of Iran.
Taghvai graduated from the Faculty of Literature in Tehran University, and soon made a place for himself in television by making TV series. He started his career in cinema as an assistant director on “Brick and Mirror”, directed by Ebrahim Golestan. Later in 1970, he took a big step in cinema by directing “Tranquility in the Presence of Others”.
His lasting work “Captain Khorshid” (1987) blew away the cinema critics and received several awards at the Fajr Film Festival. During more than four decades of strong presence in both literature and cinema, he has made numerous movies including Sadegh the Kurd, The Curse, Oh Iran, Unruled Paper and the Greek Boat.
