Mohsen Makhmalbaf (1957)
He started his career in 1981, writing the script. Since then he has published more than 27 books, including novels, short storages, plays, screenplays and essays about arts. Some of these books has been translated into foreign languages, eg English, France, Italian, Arabic, Kurdish, Turkish, Portuguese, Bosnian, Russian and Japanese. Some filmmakers has filmed his scripts, and he has edited films made by his colleagues. During the last 10 years, his films has been shown more than 1000 times in world film festivals, and has received awards. About Mohsen Makhmalbaf, books has been written, and films has been made, in English, Italian, Japanese, Korean and German languages.
He belongs to post – revolution first generation of filmmaker. He was known as a phenomenon, because each film he made was different from his previous ones. His intellectual characteristics are very easily recognizable, through his screenplays. He is one of the prominent figures of Iranian cinema. Without passing courses, and just a self – didactic filmmaker, he learned how to make his own movies. He never has experienced being an Ad, or, making short films.
