Bahman Qobadi (1969)
A graduate of IRIB Faculty, he started his career, in 1988, one of the rolific directors of short films. Winner of many international awards. Time For Drunken Horses, for the second time in history of Iranian Cinema, got the Camera D’or award from Cannes Film festival, director of more than 20 short films, and, 5 feature films.
One of the very Iranian filmmakers, who has not followed the current trend of imitating Kiarostami, with just a few pictures, with innovative stories, has created a kind of new wave in Iranian and Middle Eastern Cinema. He has learned filmmaking, by himself and upon his interest. This gifted filmmaker, with a peculiar viewpoint on his people’s dilemmas, has shown himself to be very conscious and obliged. He knows filmmaking very well, smart and clever in developing his screenplay, and making in into film. His films are thought – provoking. “Novel” is the most suitable definition for Qobadi’s work, and still, whatever he has shown to the audience, are intact. The wave created by Time For Drunken Horses, is been pursued by the others.
